I have another great urban rewilding episode for you this week. This time we’re heading to the historic town of Cheltenham, England to hear from Stephen Mason at the council’s green space department.
Stephen and his colleagues have been deploying rewilding techniques in and around the town, creating meadows (picture above) and community orchards.
We had a fascinating discussion about how they are trying to go beyond isolated projects to connect the town into the wider countryside. This helps wildlife to move into and through the town as necessary, breaking down the ecological barriers that urban areas often create.
Listen to the episode below and let me know what you think!

We also discuss how the ‘rewilding’ concept helps to get urban residents involved in biodiversity projects.
