Answering your questions on the Sustainability Essentials course
Hi!
I’ve been getting some questions about the Sustainability Essentials for Built Environment Professionals course as some of you want to make sure it’s right for you. So, I thought I’d answer those questions here.
What’s in the course?
It’s a self-guided, digital course. Each lesson is a short video with supporting visuals that covers a key concept in urban sustainability. Each of the video lessons is supported by links to relevant podcast episodes and external websites to learn more about particular topics. You don’t need to do this ‘further reading’ but it’s there to support your learning beyond the course.
The topics covered in the course are:
Climate Change: What it is, what's causing it and how bad things will get
Net Zero Carbon made simple
Regenerative Design: Beyond sustainability
Climate Adaptation explained
The Biodiversity Crisis and urban ecosystems
Circular Economy in the built environment
How sustainable change happens in the real world
PLUS lots of case studies and real-world examples.
Who is the course for?
The course is aimed at architects, planners, urban designers or others working in the built environment who don’t have a background in sustainability. It’s for people who are motivated to take climate action through their work and want to get a big picture understanding of the science and key principles of sustainability. At the end of the course you will feel empowered to start implementing sustainability principles into your work and continue developing your expertise in sustainability.
I’m super busy. What’s the time commitment of the course?
We’ve all sat through those CPD sessions with endless powerpoint presentations only to come out the other side feeling brain dead. This isn’t one of those courses! The course is purposefully focused and efficient. Each video lesson is around 15 minutes long and you can take the course at your own pace. In fact, you’ll have access to the course forever - including future updates - so you really don’t need to rush! Equally if you want to blast through it in an afternoon, you can do that too. The whole course is just over 2 hours in length.
