ANNOUNCEMENT! Towards a Regenerative Podcast
Support the podcast and fund climate action in cities
I’m delighted to announce the next stage of the Green Urbanist Podcast’s evolution and a chance for you to support climate action in cities. For 3 years, I’ve been running the podcast in my spare time and out of my own pocket. It’s been a total joy and privilege. But at some point, all creators ask the question, ‘how can I make this financially sustainable?’.
I want to go one step beyond and ask the question, ‘how can this podcast be regenerative and create positive change in the world?’.
That’s why I’ve made it possible for listeners and readers to support the podcast financially through one-off or regular donations. However, I’m not keeping all the money myself! I pledge to give 50% of all donation income to partner organisations who are tackling climate change in cities. The other 50% will cover the podcast’s operating costs and allow me to invest in its growth.
I think together we can create some really positive change in cities around the world.
The partner organisation we’ll support will change regularly, potentially quarterly or 6-monthly. Through Substack polls you will get to vote on which organisations we support.
At the time of launch (May 2023), our partner organisation is: Trees for Cities.
Here’s how Trees for Cities describe themselves:
We are the only UK charity working at a national and international scale to improve lives by planting trees in cities.
We get stuck in with local communities to cultivate lasting change in their neighbourhoods – whether it’s revitalising forgotten spaces, creating healthier environments or getting people excited about growing, foraging and eating healthy food.
Every £6 raised for Trees for Cities plants 1 tree and they work closely with local communities to build resilience and nature-connection. I’ve been involved with a number of their planting days and they are always educational, fun and enriching experiences.
If you are not in a position to give money right now, don’t worry, the podcast will remain free and you’ll still get emailed when a new episode goes live. Consider supporting the podcast by sharing your favourite episode on social media or with a friend.
Thanks for reading,
Ross
